Description

Albendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic that selectively binds to parasite beta-tubulin, inhibiting tubulin polymerization and thereby causing microtubule disassembly, energy depletion via glycogen consumption, and death of susceptible intestinal and tissue-dwelling helminths. Each 400 mg tablet provides a single-dose effective against roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and pinworm infestations, with extended dosing cycles used for tissue cestodoses including cysticercosis and echinococcosis. Supplied as 2 tablets per pack for a standard two-dose or single-dose deworming course.

Indication

Intended for intestinal deworming use under appropriate clinician guidance and in accordance with locally applicable prescribing information and patient assessment.

Packaging

Supplied as 2 tablets per pack, as stated in the product specification.

Protocol

For intestinal nematode infections: 400 mg as a single oral dose, taken with a fatty meal to enhance absorption; a second dose may be given 2–3 weeks later for confirmed reinfection. For tissue parasite infections (echinococcosis, cysticercosis): 400 mg twice daily with meals for 28 days, followed by a 14-day drug-free interval, for a total of 3 cycles. Dosage, cycle number, and follow-up are determined by the prescribing clinician; not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy.
